Cichoń was born into a working-class family. After studying at the technical school in Płock, he worked at an iron foundry. As a compensation for the difficult working conditions, he started to produce wood carvings in his spare time; a hobby in which he was already involved at the age of 14 years. In 1983 he won a prize in a competition of the Kutno Museum. Some years later he ended his industrial work to establish himself as a full-time sculptor. He took part in a large number of competitions throughout Poland and had many exhibitions at home and abroad. His works can be found in various Polish museums and in important private collections.
